It is extremely important that I speak with any witnesses to the incident, as a police spokesperson has suggested in an interview with the media that the collision was Nathan's fault. Would you please call me for a very brief conversation about what you saw that day? Thank you. Andrew G. (But quotes from Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy do come to mind.) But I need to point out the concern is not so much because of facts and premature who is at fault, it is the "WHY" explanations given by the police. All of them show a complete lack of understanding of physics and laws relating to cyclists. And I should not have to apologize for being offended by that. I see Greg copied me on his email, where is this guidance he spoke of? Is it top secret? I assume such a document would calm some fears about the "WHY"s I apologize for the tone but your comment "Don't believe everything you read" was inappropriate and missed the barn by a hundred yards. Greg's email was more on point. I'll also note I tend to get more gritty when questions are avoided. It's perfectly fine to say there has been no discussions about the Yates case but it is on the agenda, I do appreciated all that you do and the extra time you put into this blog. Last comment: It would be good form to put minutes of meetings on-line. Granted you did that with the Police up date post but the guidance thingy is apparently missing. Comment on Thoughts and Prayers For Nathan Krasnopoler by Greg Hinchliffe http://www.bikebaltimore.org/thoughts-and-prayers-for-nathan-krasnopoler/comment-page-1/#comment-368 Greg Hinchliffe Sun, 06 Mar 2011 01:54:00 +0000 http://www.bikebaltimore.org/?p=1486#comment-368 OK, folks, keep a cool head here. We are meeting with the police regularly about this case, Yates, and relations in general. Clearly, any police who have spoken to media and individuals about the "facts" of the case are speaking prematurely. The police hierarchy is rapidly backing away from any such statements. To repeat the process, a thorough investigation will be conducted, the results will be sent to the State's Attorney for possible charges, and to MVA for possible license action. Any cop who says he knows what charges will be filed is talking through his hat. The police are not trying to cause a riot among cyclists; they would much rather have good relations with us, which is something we want too. Clearly, some cops need to be brought up to speed on bicycle law, which we are working to do, either with the MDOT produced video, or a local product. The meeting with MBAC and Bike Maryland and Mary Pat Clarke and the police was not widely advertised, but was not secret either. We are all working toward the same goal, and we will get there faster with respectful (but firm) pressure. Ride safely. OK, folks, keep a cool head here. Comment on Police Update MBAC on Krasnopoler Investigation by Barry Childress http://www.bikebaltimore.org/police-update-mbac-on-krasnopoler-investigation/comment-page-1/#comment-367 Barry Childress Sat, 05 Mar 2011 00:36:00 +0000 http://www.bikebaltimore.org/?p=1503#comment-367 Nice futuristic plan! But I hate to say this does not give me any warm fuzzies about Nathan's crash. I realize that little can be said on this crash but have the police at least acknowledged the errors in the Yates fatality? Anyway I am in the middle of writing an alert requesting that Peter Moe be consulted in Nathan's crash. Seems like a fair and reasonable request to me till we get the training up and running. The professional face-to-face meetings we have had have also ended on an extremely positive note. Followups and tasks to further develop police education have not fallen by the wayside. Once again: This investigation is not complete! I will post on yesterday's meeting with the police later today Barry:
